The Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) join the partnership of the LIFE-IP 4 NATURA project
The LIFE-IP 4 NATURA project partners welcome NECCA in the partnership of the project, as a few days ago the Ministry of the Environment & Energy and the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment signed the 4th amendment of the Financing Agreement, which provides for the addition of NECCA to the project partners team.
NECCA was established by Law 4685/2020, its principal mandate being to operate executively and cooperatively with other competent bodies (Ministries, local government organisations, environmental NGOs, civil society, business agencies), having a coordinating role in Protected Areas management and a mission to plan and monitor the protection and sustainable development of these areas.
According to Law 4685/2020, the existing management agencies are merged and transformed into 24 Protected Area Management Units (PAMUs), which are part of the administrative structure of NECCA. The goal of the new agency is the implementation of the system of Multilevel Governance, with the utilization of three modern tools of public management: planning, networking and subcontracting. The new system aims to reform public policies on protected areas.
The main role of NECCA in the LIFE-IP 4 NATURA project will be project management, the coordination for the implementation of the pilot management plans in four selected Natura 2000 sites, as well as the monitoring of the Priority Action Framework for the Programming Period 2021-2027.
